This particular quote paraphrases the unexpected behaviors that the characters model. Throughout the novel, the characters search for the evil on the island but instead discover it in their own minds. The approaches they take and reactions they have to certain situations express their different personal principles. Kohlberg’s morality theory is based on how we morally reason. This theory allows the reader to understand characters more deeply. Certain characters in William Golding s The Lord of the Flies demonstrate Kohlberg’s morality analysis by their approach to the rules in their society.
